Karla Legg
New Zealand Representative
Karla is a Registered Nurse working with the organisation Plunket as a Wellchild Tamariki Ora Nurse in Christchurch, in the South Island of New Zealand. Karla is supporting whanau (family) in the care & parenting of their pepi (baby) & tamariki (children) from 4wks old to 4yrs. Working in this role with Plunket, as a Child Health & Development Nurse, seeing the lack of qualified support & barriers to access timely community Breastfeeding supports, together with her own struggles with Breastfeeding, fired her passion to complete the qualification to become an IBCLC in 2023.
Every lactating person has the right to culturally safe & specialised breast/chest feeding support in the community. In the Wellchild Role, Karla ensures that the woman/person feel empowered when feeding their pepi (baby) to meet their individual feeding goals & appropriately informed to work towards more positive long-term health & wellbeing outcomes for both pepi (baby) & their whanau (family). Karla has also had time in private practice as a Baby Massage Instructor & an internationally recognised Holistic Sleep Coach, which has an emphasis on biologically normal infant & child sleep, guided by evidenced based research & that always protects the breastfeeding journey.
When Karla is not in the community you will find her in her veg patch, chasing her chickens, trying not to hurt herself at Reformer Pilates & hanging out with her husband & their Cockalier pup, Floki.
