LCANZ – Adelaide Regional Group Education Session
Monday 21st May – 6.30pm
Glenside Education Centre (download map)

Our next education session will be held on Monday May 21st 2018 at Glenside Education Centre.  This is a great opportunity to network with fellow IBCLC colleagues, obtain those much needed CERPS and extend our knowledge and skills.

Speakers:

Jo Gilpin RN RM IBCLC Dip Health Counselling and Infant Mental Health
‘Breastfeeding: One Golden Hour. The power to nurture, sustain and protect’ and the second is ‘ Antenatal Essentials for Breastfeeding’

Jo Gilpin is a Registered Nurse, Midwife and has worked for many years as a Child Health Nurse with CaFHS. During this time she completed a graduate Diploma in Health Counselling and in Infant Mental Health at University of South Australia. Her passion throughout, has been encouraging and supporting parents to have successful, enjoyable, breastfeeding relationships with their babies.

She became an IBCLC in 1996 and has worked privately in that capacity since 2005. In 2011 she published her book ‘On the Breast Handbook. Planning for Breastfeeding Success’ and is currently writing an updated version called ‘Brilliant Breastfeeding. A Sensible Guide’. (due to be published later this year).

Jo now lives with her husband on Kangaroo Island. Her children and 5 grandchildren live in Sydney.

Marianne Dugmore RN RM IBCLC
‘Skin to Skin and Baby-Led Attachment, a sensible and logical approach’

Marianne was born and bred in Adelaide back in the golden age of Baby Boomers. She undertook her general nurse training at the Adelaide Children’s Hospital when mops and buckets were still a nursing tool, and continued on to the Queen Victoria to do her Midwifery training in the days when the baby was put to the breast 3 minutes a side on day one, 5 minutes day two, 7 minutes day on day three and then discharged home doing ten minutes a side. Goodness knows what happened then!

In 1983, newly married and with a six week old in arms, she moved to Newcastle with her husband, a career move for him. Marianne thought Newcastle was in England on the river Tyne…..such a parochial little Adeladian! Two years and two babies later she found herself surrounded in baby boys and joined the Nursing Mothers Association, which saved her life for sure. She undertook the Counselling training and ended up running the Wahroonga ABA Group for ten years in Sydney. Years later, in 2004, she found herself back in Maternity working as a midwife and still passionate about breastfeeding, so she became an IBCLC and worked as the LC on the ward at the Sydney Adventist Hospital until returning to Adelaide in 2013.

Since returning home she has run a private LC practise, visiting mums in their homes in the Adelaide Metropolitan area, as well as working a shift now and then in the private hospital mid units. She is now branching out into unknown territory and starting up in private rooms on Unley Road with a Chiropractor and a Speech Therapist

We will have a short sharing at 6.30pm – look forward to seeing you there.
